Michelle Rein Memorial Fund established for PAWS volunteer tragically killed
On June 11th, Michelle Rein, a trusted and valued member of the PAWS family, was hit and killed by a train in an effort to save her service dog, Taz. Although Taz hopped out from under the train with minor injuries, Michelle did not survive. Michelle was an amazing person and devoted friend to all. Her instinct to save her dog, not herself, illustrates her selflessness. Michelle taught those around her to love all living things, and to help those in need.
This article from the Philadelphia Inquirer is a wonderful tribute to some of her many accomplishments.
Michelle’s love and compassion for animals was contagious (she also had several hedgehogs, whom she had rescued). She dedicated a lot of her time to volunteering for PAWS. In her honor and memory, her friends have established The Michelle Rein Memorial Fund, which will support PAWS’ efforts to save Philadelphia’s homeless animals.
We at PAWS will miss Michelle and feel her absence for a long time to come.
